Recent Change to ArcGIS Geometry Services?
Greetings,
Has anyone noticed a change to the ArcGIS Geometry Services in the last few days?
We've always used "https://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer" and "https://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer" in our workflows (not sure why, but our initial workflows used those two geometry services and we always just continued with those two).
It seems like at some point last week, all the workflows using "sampleserver6" ceased to function properly -- any workflows using "sampleserver6" bailed at the point where the service was called up, usually a buffer operation. The "sampleserver1" geometry service continues to work fine, as do a few others, so I just switched the "6" to a "1" and everything works again. I'm having a hard time finding any documentation that can clue me in to the finer points of the Arcgis geometry services -- just wondering what happened. Weird.
BTW we are using the most current HTML viewer as of a month or two ago.
Thanks,
Lisa

I would not rely on those or use those for anything other than testing.
As stated at the REST endpoint for those services: "This is a sample service hosted by ESRI, powered by ArcGIS Server. ESRI has provided this example so that you may practice using ArcGIS APIs for JavaScript, Flex, and Silverlight. ESRI reserves the right to change or remove this service at any time and without notice."0 -
I'll be darned, thanks Dan! I seem to have missed that in the fine print. I've got our own geoetry service in there now and it seems to be working.
Thanks, again!

The new sampleserver6 URL is now
(http://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Utilities/Geometry/GeometryServer) http://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Utilities/Geometry/GeometryServer0 -
None of these ESRI samples are meant for production - better to publish your own 0
