    That's due to aliasing.

     

    Make sure you have the appropriate anti-aliasing options set when you publish the map service.  You can also force Geocortex to download the images in a higherquality (and as bigger files) in the details of the map service in Essentials. (Map Service>Display Setings>Image Format).

    Dan's got it.  Try chaging (Map Service>Display Setings>Image Format) to png32, which has better transparency support than other image formats.

    Thank you all for such a timely response.  What a vast improvement when applying the png32.  The "mask" look has gone away.

    Thanks all, png32 is the right answer and it supports symbol transparency, not png24 or any other. and I can leave anti-aliasing to none.
