Filter Cancel & Clear = Bug??
Has anyone else had user complaints about the default filter workflow?
If you create a filter everything works as expected. You can close with the X, then reopen filter tool/panel and the existing query is there. "Clear" filter works. Same process for the "Cancel" button.
However what bombs out for the user is the below which results in major user experience problems. To duplicate try this:
1. Apply filter
2. Pick a different layer: Hit clear filter without doing anything....the initial filter remains.
Go back to your orginal layer that had the filter....hit clear filter. Nothing happens.
I respect and understand that "clear filter" makes sense to only apply to the "Data Source" selection. However when going back to the "data source" you applied the filter too...the filter is stuck ON at this point for that respective layer.
You cannot clear that filter per my screen shot below. You also cannot duplicate the filter to wiggle it loose and freshen it up. As noted the filter is supplied and stuck on...so filtering for ALL won't work. The user is just forced to "refresh" the whole web map. This I have identified as a bug. As at a minumum the user should can remember they applied a filter and then clear it. This is not possible even if the user remembers.
Next improvement after bug fix identified would be:
In essense the Filter tool needs to cache the applied filters and make them accessible to the user. This could be as easy as a button "ungreying" in the filter tool maybe in the bottom left that allows the user to go to another panel to enhance, delete, alter the filters on all layers.

I agree Dylan. We have users that are complaining of the same issue. 0 -
Also if you apply filter with 'Map Area' set to 'Polygon drawings', you run in to same issue. Clear filter does not works in that case. 0
