How to remove empty white space from data link tables

I recently upgraded from GXE450 H5V26 to GXE4110 H5V2121 and one of the annoyances my staff have seen is that the data link tables seem to have a minimum column width, previous version would shrink up that area if it could. I have done a work around by shifting the more important columns to the first few columns and joining fields together in my sql view to decrease column numbers. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if there is a CSS tweak to minimise the white space (the red areas below)?
