launch an executable on submit

I have an FME script I would like to run after the user has selected something in a workflow activity. The FME script is located on the same server as Essentials so I was hoping to launch fme.exe and pass the selected value from the form to the server (client side and server side workflows). Is there a workflow activity I can use to make that happen?
