Update Attachment to update attachment name only

It would be valuable to be able to update the attachment name of an attachment only. The Update Attachment activity enables you to set an attachment name, but you have to upload a new attached file to replace the existing attachment. Attachments, when added, get the name of the uploaded file, and it would be good to be able to give them a more describing name without having to upload a new attachment file to overwrite the one you already added.

 

Update Attachment uses, and is limited by, the function that exists within ArcGIS Server, but I guess it would be possible to write directly to the ATT_NAME field of the attachments table to change the name only. This option to set the attachment name would be valuable in the Add Attachment activity as well

  I think we should be able to add the Attachment Name input to the Add Attachment activity without too much trouble. However, I don't think there's much we can do about renaming an attachment until Esri addresses this thread and exposes something via the REST API.

  The trouble is that with both the addAttachment and updateAttachment endpoints get the name from the file blob in the form. There is currently no way of supplying a name separate from the file itself.

  The idea of editing the ATT_NAME field of the attachments table only works if you have direct access to the table. This isn't exposed via the REST API.

  I've changed this back to Planned since the Update Attachment activity wasn't addressed by the change in VertiGIS Studio Workflow 5.39.
