Hide field in showresults?

Is there any way in WF5 to do the equivalent of a user clicking on the X in the table results view?

 

I can remove the value of a field by removing from the query but I really need to dynamically hide the field. Otherwise I'll need to publish 3 feature layers with fields preconfigured as far as I can tell as my ShowResults is associated with an existing editable layer in the TOC.

  Is the use of Access Control and the configuration of field permissions an option?
