Tips/Tricks on troubleshooting report issues. Please contribute!

As many of you know the report designer could be fragile, and when all of the sudden you get an error the 'PDF cannot be generated' there is no easy way to troubleshoot and figure out the issue. If anyone has some good tips please share.
