'The following component is referencing itself' error
Hi all,
I keep running into the this error message 'The following component is referencing itself or an item which does not exist. Please fix the component before saving. layer-extension'.
When I click on the 'layer-extension' hyperlink I am told 'Sorry, your filter "layer-extension" does not match any items.'
Any idea how to work out what is causing this error? It is stopping me from saving and publishing my app...
Thank you!

Hi @Lisa Wilhelmseder? ... got a little behind in answering here as we were getting 5.12 out the door. Did you find a resolution to this? The logic that checks the app helps prevent deploying apps that would cause errors for end users. In general this use case happens when you configure Component A, then configure Component B that has some reference to Component A, then remove Component A. If you are still struggling with this let me know and we'll get you sorted out.

I'm getting the same issue. I'm using GXW 5.13.0. It started occurring after I'd been updating the base maps. I've gone back through all the base maps and ensured there were no errors. One error that did come up was that the 'Custom Basemap' 'Layer' was undefined and showing a 'Required' error. I clicked Select and selected a base map to remove this error. However the error that Lisa reported still occurs. Here is the full message.
'Unable to Save
The following component is referencing itself or an item which does not exist. Please fix the component before saving.
map-extension - Desktop Landscape
The following component is referencing itself or an item which does not exist. Please fix the component before saving.
basemap-extension - Desktop Landscape
The following component is referencing itself or an item which does not exist. Please fix the component before saving.
layer-extension - Desktop Landscape'
How do I find the actual components being described in this error message? Whenever I click on any of these hyperlinks I am told 'Sorry, your filter "layer-extension" does not match any items.'

Hi @Mark Norbury (Esri Canada)? , sorry for the delay. I'm not sure if you've been able to identify the cause? Let us know either way. Based on the error messaging above, it looks like it might be some specific configuration for either the basemaps or layer extension that it's complaining about. For example, you have an event configured for Basemap A, which references a component that has been removed.
Regarding the issue where you select the results in Pinpoint, and they don't match any items, I've raised a ticket with our dev team, to make the hyperlinks connect to the menu items and components they should be linking to.
Regards,
Tom
