smart filtering of legends

The release notes for GXW 5.13 state:

 

Resolved an issue with web map serialization that was impacting the ability to properly perform smart filtering of legends to visible features [45630].

 

 

I am wondering how to activate smart legend filtering in the first place? Is this a specific configuration setting in GXW?

  Hi Laurens,

   

  The bug resolved [45630] is to allow GXW to respect the smart legend filtering configuration done in Geocortex Printing template, and print out only the legend of features displaying in the current map picture box.

  We don't have any controls/configuration in GXW itself. Smart legend is only configurable in printing only.

  Note that the legend in Web does filter the legend based upon map scale and scale visibility settings (something that is not visible on the map due to scale will not show up in the legend). 'Smart Filtering' for the legend as done by Printing takes that a step farther and ensures that if it isn't in the map extent, it doesn't show up in the legend. This is computationally very expensive. It is worth doing for a print job, but would be prohibitive to performance to try to do it on every map extent change.
