Line Chart - sort axis

I have a line chart in my report. The X axis show Date information (but its a text format instead of an actual date format, and it has to be that way). The Y axis is hospital occupancy rate. Because my date field is actually in a text format the potted values are not displayed in correct order. The chart by default sorts my date field as text, which is expected, but that is not what I want. What I would like to do instead is to sort the data by ObjectID. Is that even possible?
