Sort order of related records
Hi,
So I'm trying to figure out how to change the sort order of the related records that show up when you first click a feature in Mobile. I need them to show up in DESC order so the most recent (by Inspection Date) shows up at the top of the list.
Currently they seem to be in ASC order, but when you look at inspection done on the same day, the order seems to be all messed up….so I'm not really sure on how they are getting sorted. See the image below, where the 11:20am one shows up as the last one on that day for some reason.
I cannot seem to find anything in my AGOL webmap that would be controlling the sort order, so either I just missed it, or Mobile is controlling how these are getting displayed.

Hi Brian, the items appear in the order that they were created in by default. Assuming all devices have active internet connections, related records would appear in the correct order.
However, what I believe has happened here is the person who created the last item was offline when they created it at 11:20 AM. When they got internet connection, the record was uploaded and placed at the bottom because it was uploaded last.
I have tested this and confirmed that it is supposed to behave this way as it matches what's shows in ArcGIS Online.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Hi. These are all testing records, so all were created while having a working internet connection.
Is there not a way to sort the order in which the records show up in the list? I would guess that 99.9% of the time when someone selects the date as the field to show, they are looking to have it be sorted either ASC or DESC.

Hi Brain, I see. I'd then chalk it up to spotty internet or us not uploading the record on time for some reason. To guarantee that this doesn't happen again, I'd suggest you try refreshing the app after adding a record to make sure it was uploaded correctly. I'd be curious to know if all of these records were done in one session on one device or if some records were created from different devices.
To address the second part of your question, we do not currently have a way of sorting how the records show up in the list as the assumption that they will show up in the order in which they were created.

Hi Jack. I'll go back to this next week and do some testing again, just to confirm what is happening. So you are saying that the records are sorted by OBJECTID or GUID??
My testing is typically done through one or two devices….an iPad or the Windows machine I do the development on. I haven't looked at this in a while, probably since I posted this question, but I'll get back to it next week after the canadian Thanskgiving weekend.
Thanks!

Ok, so I did a quick test. On this one, the manhole already had inspections in the Inspection table….one from 2019 and one from 2017….so neither created by VertiGIS. I just added a new one using VertiGIS, and it's showing up at the bottom of the list.
I need the most recent one to show at the top, since when a repair crew goes back to this manhole to do any repairs, I can't have the repair guys scrolling through a list of inspections looking for the most recent one. It needs to be easlily findable. Some of these manholes have an extensive inspection history.
Can that list of inspections be controlled in my webmap or through the Mobile app??

Hi Brain, the ordering is made using some kind of an ID, yes. When the records get uploaded and assigned an ID, that's what determines their ordering in the list.
As I mentioned earlier, we currently do not support having custom ordering on related records. I do get where you're coming from though and I wish I could give you a better answer. If you'd like, feel free to submit an idea about it and, when we're done with our immediate work and bug fixes, we will be looking there for ways to expand our app so our users get the best experience possible.

My apologies for taking this long to getting to this post. I've started here somewhat recently and I'm trying my best to answer all posts. On that note, enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend!

Ordering on OBJECTID = order in database table = no sorting
