Call Menuitem by command from Workflow

I have a workflow in a Layout-Container that can be called by menuitem or workflow (with ui.activate and Layout-ID). When called by workflow, the menuitem does not know the state of the container to change its status (checked/unchecked). 

It would be better to call the menuitem itself to show/hide the container . Therefor each menuitem needs an ID to get called from elsewhere.
