Using basemaps not published in Web Mercator/Esri basemaps coordinate system
Our county provides REST endpoints for cached aerial imagery as recent as 2022 and going back as far as 1940. In Geocortex Essentials, I would use one of these layers as my bottom layer to set the app coordinate system. In VSW, I'm having trouble figuring out how best to add multiple imagery layers that are in UTM.
When I try to add an imagery layer to VSW, I'm getting this error. Wondering what considerations there are for using basemaps that are in different coordinates systems, if that's even possible?

Hey John, I believe you would have to change the basemap in the web map itself.
You would have to create a custom basemap (likely in ArcGIS Pro) with the local projection and publish it to your Portal. From there you could add that custom basemap in Portal's Map Viewer.
You could use the ArcGIS Vector Style Editor to help style your basemap after it has been published.
Here's a tutorial I found by Esri on making a web map using another projection: https://learn.arcgis.com/en/projects/make-a-web-map-without-web-mercator/.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'll chip in here with what I've found so far.I'm trying to use our own Basemaps (raster cache tiles) as they are mainly in a Lamberts derived projection relevant to our State. I can't really use the web mercator ones on offer from esri online.
I've created a new series of webmaps in the portal that are essentially references to the REST service tile caches. I then group these in Portal - and switch the basemap default in Portal to this new group. From here, I can use this new basemap picker in Portal webmap creation, but I can't get this working inside of VSW. The basemap component in VSW does not see these new basemaps - I suspect because they are webmaps in the portal??
I've been told I need to create a new Basemap group/folder as such in the webmap and bring them each in that way into VSW, which sort of defeats the purpose of doing the whole basemap thing in portal to start with. I'm hoping there might be a better way of doing this also?
But I'm still a little surprised you were able to display multiple projections in Essentials. Once our ‘base’ cache set the projection - it did not let us add differing basemap/tile caches to the site. We got away with minor lambert changes ie, GDA94 to GDA2020, but that was it.
