Notice of retirement of out-of-the-box 3D scene printing
January 1, 2024 we are retiring 3D scene printing in VertiGIS Studio Printing.
This will apply to the SaaS environment and future VertiGIS Studio Printing releases for on-premises use.
Based on usage, this should impact very few people.
If your business has a need for 3D scene printing, please contact us.
There are some Workflow based approaches that use Get Map Screenshot activity that can be made to work and we are happy to provide an example.
First, this was necessary because addressing recent critical security vulnerabilities found in Chromium used within VertiGIS Studio Printing (and Reporting's rendering of maps) required updating Chromium which now requires a dedicated GPU to render 3D scenes.
Second, the new printing engine being integrated into VertiGIS Studio Web relies upon Esri APIs (JavaScript in the client and ArcPy in the engine). Today, these APIs have no interfaces or export definitions for 3D web scenes in support of printing. We hope to see web scene support for printing interfaces in a future Esri release.
For both these reasons, we decided it was the right time to retire this out-of-the-box feature and to equip a few customers who have a need to print 3D scenes with an alternate solution to accomplish the same goal.
