Adding related record without editing feature

    Hi Max,

Thank you for your question. There are a couple of options that you could make use of. First, while still using the out of the box tools, you could go into the feature layer and adjust the type of editing allowed. In the Portal item for that layer, in the Settings tab, in addition to turning editing on/off, there should be options to refine those editing permissions like so:

If you change it to 'Attributes only' this will allow users to edit attributes of the feature but not its geometry, while still allowing them to add/edit the related table entries.

Another option would be to configure a Workflow that will perform the add/edit to the table. You could disable editing on the feature layer, then add something like a feature action button which would launch a Workflow to work with the table. If you launch Go, go into the 'Try out the sample apps' section from the main welcome screen, and load the 'Capital City' app, then identify a fire hydrant, you'll see that it has such a feature action Workflow:

    Hope that helps!

    Phil

Hi Phil, thanks for giving some ideas.

The first option still wouldn't work because we don't want them editing the attributes of the layer either, just the related table. I was hoping there was a way to still have that add related record plus button at the bottom of the layer details when a feature is click on and just have the edit and delete turned off completely. Just figured since there are independant settings for editing layers vs tables in designer that there was a way to do that. I'll give the workflow button a shot though.

    Hi Max,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add a feature request into our backlog to look into unentangling those two functions and see if we can fit it into a future release.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns,

    Phil
