Customized Editing Workflow
Hello, I would like to create a customized workflow that allow the user to create a point and populate the required attributes. Here is the conceptual workflow I'd like to achieve:
1. Prompt the user to create a point based on the aerial
2. The user create a point by clicking on the map
3. the point got save to the layer (only 1 layer will be editable)
4. A window pop up for the user to enter required attributes info
5, Use click save to commit changes
6. Or the user click the cancel to cancel the point and attribute
Is it possible to use workflow or should I create a custom module? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Yuying

Yuying,
It sounds like most everything you need to is available simply by enabling the Editing Module of the GeoCortex viewer. Check out page 21 of the Administrator and Developers Guide for the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight for information about configuring the Editing Module.

Thank you Ben. I am aware of the Editing Module that comes with the Silverlight Viewer 1.2 However, the workflow provided with the module is have attribute editing and geometry editing separately. The user needs to select Editing Attribute tool, click the geometry and then enter the required attributes information. So I would like to develop the workflow that once the user create the geometry a window will popup asking for the attribute information. Would that be possible using the workflow designer?
Thanks,

There are a couple of limitations in Workflow Designer presently that will prevent you from achieving this. Specifically the editing tasks cannot be automated in this manner.
You'd be best served right now by creating a custom module, as all of these things are indeed possible using the ESRI and Geocortex Silverlight APIs. However, this may change in the future as more features are added to Workflow.

Sorry for the naive question: where do we find the Edit Task and Module and how to enable it on Silverlight Viewer? I am running 1.3 Viewer.
Thanks!

Alex,
I'm at 1.4 - but I think from memory it's the same (??)
You need to edit the viewer you have set up for the site, so head into Rest Manager --> edit site --> edit viewer --> toolbar
You should see a list of available tools. Under the tasks list of tools there is a EditToolsRegion option. Drag and drop this into a new or existing tab. That should do it.
cheers

On a similar topic, & while i appreciate the Geocortex editing is largely a wrapper around the ESRI API editor widget, I want to explore the ability to use workflows in order to prompt a user to save any attributes changes before the attribute editor window is closed. The issue we currently face is users often will not hit the 'apply' button when making attribute edits. The fact the current widget leaves no option to edit attributes as a two step process (create the feature, then populate attributes) does not help on minimizing the chance of occurrence.
