Overview Map in a Layer Report problem
I've looked at the Charlotte example Layer Report Templates and see how an overview map can be created by adding a fairly large buffer around a layer feature map. That works, but I'm having some problems with that approach.
- First problem, I really need to have our entire State boundary represented in the overview map for one particular Layer report. That means a buffer of around 150 miles.
- Second problem, the features in this layer are districts. Some of the districts are simple rectangles, but some of them look like a puzzle with about half the pieces missing. On those regions, the layer report times out when the overview map buffer is greater than about 50 miles, presumably because there are so many "sides" involved with the polygon.
- Third problem, the overview only highlights the feature in question, rather than the display area, making it difficult to get the proper reference the overview should provide.
The Overview Map, as applied to the Print Template would be a perfect solution. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear there is any way to integrate the Overview Map with a Layer Template in the same manner as in the Print Template.
Is there any way to pull a resource like the Overview Map into a Layer Template?

The overview map is an object that uses the map as its data source-- the only way to incorporate it into the layer report is through subreports. Try creating a sub report control in the Layer Template report and then a separate .rpx file that contains the Overview map control.

Thanks for the response Flo. Unfortunately, the SubReport configuration in the Report Designer appears to be looking for a datalink in the DataField setting. When I create a report to use as a sub-report, the name entered for the sub-report isn't recognized and the web page displays the following error message:
"Specified datatable 'OverviewMapSubReport' does not exist in the dataset"
I'm not seeing any way to have the sub-report data configuration use a report name (in this case OverviewMapSubReport) in the dataset. Am I missing something that should be really obvious?

I have an update on this in case anyone is interested.
I've discovered the site.xml <MapTemplateReport> tag under the <LayerTemplateReport> tag does not update if the report indicated in <LayerTemplateReport> is modified.
I think the solution is to delete and recreate the report configuration from the layer whenever the contents of the report changes.
