Using a report to query layer

Hello,

I'm am trying to build a report for a test site in which I want to be able to prompt the user for an argument. I've easily created the report to list items selected from the map, but I would rather search by attributes. 

In our old IMF mapping, there was a robust query function that I have not been able to replicate in GCX 3.5.1 / SL 1.3

Any hints are greatly appreciated!
