Default Charlotte web sites
I'd like to explore the default Charlotte web sites, but there's a problem with the URLs that I don't know how to fix. The base of the URL is the name of my machine, as opposed to the web address. Therefore, these URLs cannot be viewed (outside a remote desktop session). I've looked at the help, the site properties, the documentation, and I can't find the answer. Nor did I know what to search for in these forums. Can someone help me?
Actual: http://<machinename>/Geocortex/Essentials/REST/sites/Charlotte
Expected: http://<websiteURL>/Geocortex/Essentials/REST/sites/Charlotte

Seems like your DNS may not configured properly or if you want to change the base url to make it display domain name instead of the machine name you can modify the path by configuring web.config in this location. C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\[Your Instance]\REST Elements\Manager\web.confg. You would need to change this setting <add key="EssentialsUrl" value="http://[YourDomain]/Geocortex/Essentials/[Your Instance Name]/REST/sites" /> but your DNS settings would need to be configured properly to pick up the alias name tied to the machine name or IP.

Sorry it took a few days for me to reply--I had bronchitis. But just now I tried the solution you posted, then I opened the Geocortex agent and clicked the Restart link, and when I logged back in to the REST manager (remotely and locally), all of my REST services had my URL instead of the machine name, just as you said they would. I had already had the DNS thing set up, I just couldn't figure out how to make the REST manager use the URL I had created for the web site (I thought it was a setting in one of the post installs, but couldn't find it). Thank you for solving this problem for me!
