    Hi Peter,

What is the output image format of your service?

What browser(s) are you seeing this behaviour in?

Does it happen in a viewer (which one?), or when you print the map?  How about when you export a map using the Silverlight viewer?

Black backgrounds can happen when we treat a PNG8 or PNG24 image as either a JPEG encoded image or by incorrectly assigning the transparent channel.  However, it's very hard to tell where this starts happening as it could be anywhere in the server, the Essentials site configuration, the viewer, or the browser.

    Regards,

    -Malcolm

Just published my first image service and noticed the black background.  My image service is PNG32, using SL 1.7.  I don't see the black background when viewing the service in ArcGIS.com, ArcGIS JavaScript or HTML5 1.1 viewer. The black background does not appear when exporting to BMP, JPEG, PNG or TIFF, or when viewing a PDF print.  Also, it occurs on both IE9 & Chrome.

You need to check what type of image tiles you got (PNG/JPEG/etc.) on your image server. Then edit your image layer in GeoCortex essentials manager and under the "display settings" tab there is an option "image format" if you make it as per your service tiles the black area will go away. At least it worked for me!

    Thanks,

    A
