    Steve,

This works for me so i suspect you still have some configuration issues (I'm @ 3.5 but i don't see this being an issue for you).

You may wish to check the log & see if it gives you any further info (C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\Default\REST Elements\REST\App_Data\Logs).

Did the default Charlotte site get created for you?

Yes, indeed, Steve, though I haven't looked into resolving the issue. We, too, are running GE 3.7. When I attempt to open the Charlotte site for edit, I get the Map Service Connection Failed message on http://sampleserver1.geocortex.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/CharlotteComplete/MapServer. If I put that URL into a browser window, however, everything is fine. The log file reports:

    <Event Timestamp="2012-04-18T07:41:55.9788373-07:00" Level="INFO" Identity="Super"><Message>Could not create site \Charlotte\Site.xml: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

I imagine there's a setting we just need to flip on or off but I don't know what or where.

    Martha,

I'd hazard a guess the Authorisation message is thrown as the silverlight client is trying to access a non local domain server, and hence it does not like this... a silverlight thing!!

Have you set up the clientaccesspolicy.xml file in the inetpub/wwwroot directory of the geocortex server?

    cheers

    Gareth,

Sorry I was unclear. I'm speaking of opening the site in GE Manager (3.7) or clicking on the link there to view the REST endpoint. Can't do it for Charlotte.

I don't have a clientaccesspolicy.xml, as we are Flex users here, though I don't imagine that pertains. I just wanted to see how some of the reports were set up in GE. I ended up snooping through the site.xml, so I didn't bother pursuing the error further. I would like to correct it, though, if possible.

    Thanks,

    Martha

    Hi Martha

I am pretty sure that Flex still has the same knowledge and use of clientaccesspolicy.xml files as Silverlight applications due to similar security models

    Thanks

For Flex you would need a crossdomain.xml file instead of clientaccesspolicy.xml.

Thanks, all. I have resolved the issue here and it's on a par with checking to see if the device is plugged in. I am duly embarassed. I remote in to the development server and rarely log into the Internet from there. Turns out that I was testing the link in GE on the development server but copying the URL to my own machine, which is logged in. Turns out that clicking the link in GE doesn't prompt for Internet access. When I tried the URL on the development machine, I was prompted for credentials. Oops. Now that I'm logged in, the GE link works like a champ. Please excuse me now; I have to crawl back under my rock.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. In my case the only entry in the Geocortex log file was "site with ID "Charlotte" failed to initialize. Refer to the logs for more details"

I checked the site log in the intepub logs and the only thing that looks like it might be an error is this entry

    2012-04-20 12:13:53 ::1 GET /Geocortex/Essentials/RestManager/Sites/ConversionErrors siteID=Charlotte&_=1334924033294 80 Stephen.Broatch ::1 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/5.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E) 200 0 0 312

I also found another log in

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\Default\REST Elements\Manager\App_Data\Logs

    This had the below entry

    <Event Timestamp="2012-04-20T13:34:18.0824378+01:00" Level="INFO" Identity="Stephen.Broatch"><Message>Accessed Page: http://w5giswebtest1/Geocortex/Essentials/RestManager/MapServices/FixAgsConnectionFailed, Processing Time: 3119.74ms.</Message></Event>

So I still can't get the Charlotte site working although technically it has been created on my sites list. I just can't run or edit it, as it complains about the map service connection failure. Although as I said in an earlier post I can access the Charlotte map service ok through a browser session on the same server, just not through Geocortex REST Manager software itself.

Not really sure where I can go from here?

    Steve
