I tried adding a different cached aerial, and same thing.  Are other folks having any issue with aerials?

    Our Aerials display OK.

    Did you turn on Fiddler?

I did just now.  Nothing shows in Fiddler when I'm zoomed in and try to turn on the aerial.

I'm having an issue, too. When I use the desktop version of the HTML5 1.1 viewer, I can't zoom in as far as I can on my Silverlight app using the same cached. I've uploaded a Fiddler file.

I'm able to zoom in fully to my closest cache scale, but the aerial just doesn't come up.

Turns out that the way I copied my caches during the upgrade to 10.1 caused a min/max scale to be added to the rest end point.  Silverlight accepted the scale levels, but HTML5 looks at this value.  I ended up having to re-cache my aerial.

Hmm. I haven't changed my cache or upgraded to 10.1. When I said I can't zoom, I meant that when I zoom in, the cached aerial disappears at large scales. So I can see it "further in" on the Silverlight Viewer than the HTML5 viewer, even though the service is the same. This happens on the desktop and handheld versions of the HTML5 viewer.

The max scale for the aerial layer in the REST endpoint is 0, and the min is 120000. Here is the REST endpoint for the service, in case anyone has any ideas. http://maps.sanmiguelcounty.org/ArcGIS/rest/services/Aerial12inch/MapServer

The Fiddler file I uploaded shows a bunch of 404 errors when trying to retrieve tiles at large scales. I don't know what this means.

    Heather,

A couple of things.  First, I'm not sure why you are bothering to cache a 1 ft aerial at 300 scale - it just isn't good enough quality to need it.  If it were a 1/4 ft, then yes.  You are just using up memory.  Also, it is normal to have your scales double, and you are jumping more than 3x going from 300 to 1000.  500 scale is more than adequate, and probably even 1000 would be fine.

Now, when I look at this service, I'm not able to see your 300 scale, or your 250000 to 650000 scales in ArcGIS JavaScript.  In 10.1 the rest endpoint shows minimum and maximum scale, which is where I saw my issues.  Your end point doesn't seem to show that, however.  I'm not sure my problem happened during the upgrade.  I resolved the problem by re-caching.  I deleted and then re-published the service first.  You might try publishing your aerial under a different name, and then caching just a small area at all scales, and then try to view in the ArcGIS JavaScript link at the top of the rest endpoint page.

Obviously, I have exposed my weaknesses as an ArcGIS Server and caching newbie.

I will look at re-caching my imagery with more sensible scales, but I still don't understand why it's different between the viewers.

Are you able to view the 3 highest scales in HTML5?  I couldn't in the ArcGIS JavaScript viewer.

As near as I can figure, Silverlight is reading the cached scales viewable in the REST endpoint, whereas HTML5 is looking at another setting that has not been exposed in the REST endpoint before 10.1.   This is a service min and max scale range.  I don't remember this being there before, but in ArcGIS Server 10.1 it is a setting in the Tiling Scheme section.  If you look at this service, you will see near the bottom the Min Scale (153600) and the Max Scale (300).  Try looking at your ArcGIS Server Manager for the setting somewhere in the cache properties area.
