When Will the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight Require Microsoft Silverlight Version 5?
The Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight currently uses Silverlight 4. In the future, the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight will require Silverlight 5.
The Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight uses and relies on Esri’s (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/communities/silverlight-api/) ArcGIS API for Silverlight . Currently, it uses the ArcGIS API for Silverlight version 3.1. At version 3.1, Esri (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/silverlight-api/concepts/index.html#//0166000000mq000000#ESRI_SECTION1_C25974F04E8B4B4B8A166548888B2813) deprecated the use of Silverlight 4 – this means that the next release of the ArcGIS API for Silverlight, currently scheduled for June 2013 will require Silverlight 5.
We strive to ensure that the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight uses the latest versions of Esri’s API since we want to allow our customers to take advantage of the new capabilities it may provide. Since the June 2013 release of ArcGIS API for Silverlight will require Silverlight 5, the subsequent compatible release of the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight will also require Silverlight 5.
What this means: End users of applications built on a future version of the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight must ensure that the Silverlight 5 plugin is installed on their computer. Users who already have Silverlight 5 installed will not perceive any change to their experience, otherwise they will be prompted to install the Silverlight 5 plugin.
