Image Service NoData areas not transparent
I have an ArcGIS Server 10.0 image service which was published from a mosaic dataset. In the ArcCatalog preview my image service looks fine, and the NoData areas are transparent (no black edges around the borders). In other non-Geocortex apps the imagery is also displaying with no problems. However, in my Geocortex Silverlight Viewer the imagery comes in with a black background anyplace there is not imagery. So, the entire screen beyond the borders of the imagery is completely black. I have tried changing the NoData value of the Mosaic from 256 to 0 with no success.
Any ideas? My map services which are published MXDs with raster data inside (not true image services) show up as expected.

Hi Tami,
I had exactly the same thing happen yesterday. I'm in the process of migrating from 10.0 to 10.1 and created a new 10.1 image service that behaved exactly as you are describing. Looked great in ArcCatalog but black in the no data areas in SLV.
I have more than one GE instance on the 10.1 development server and I noticed the 3.11.1/SLV1.7 instance displayed the black areas and the 3.14/slv1.9 instance was displaying transparent as expected. After I upgraded the instance that was displaying the black background to 3.14/1.9 the problem cleared.
Are you using a GE/SLV version that's older than 3.14/1.9 by any chance?

Unfortunately no, I am running 3.14 and SL 1.9.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I suspect I will run into this again.
Have you tried creating a new site to see if that also has the problem with the black display? I've tried a couple of times but haven't been able to recreate the error so far.

In Essentials 3.14 the black area easy to solve.
Just go into Display Settings and change Image Format to png8/png24.
I can't remember what version of Essentials this setting was introduced.

That worked perfectly, thank you!
