Error Loading Map Services - problem loading some map data.
I am a total new-be to this so please bear with me...
I have successfully published a map service to ArcGIS for Server and have verified in ArcGIS Server Manager that it's rest endpoint is created successfully. I then in Geocortex Essentials Manager, created a new site and added this map service to it. I then created a Geocortex Silverlight Viewer. I go and launch the viewer and get this error:
'ERROR LOADING MAP SERVICE: There was a problem loading some of the map data. The following map services will be unavailable: PubTest/TownLayers_v4_DU'
Note:
- I have multiple group layers in my source MXD file; would that be the problem? Does the Viewer not support multiple group layers?
- Here are my software specs. : GE is 3.15, GVS is 1.10

If you go to "Site Info" in Manager and open the REST URL can you get to the Map Services and Layers that way?

Hi Dan,
Thanks for responding to the post - I did a check like you said, the site directory is brought up with, what looks like, typical information:
Current version, site loaded, configuration method, configuration scanned, MAP, OVERVIEW MAP, NORTH ARROW, VIEWERS, suppordted operations, supported interfaces
I've also clicked into the various sections (bold up above) and it seems everything checks out, layers are revealed with ID numbers etc.
Appreciate the heads-up though, thanks Dan.

No problem. O ther ideas to trouble shoot are to check the Essentials Error Logs and/or use (http://fiddler2.com/) Fiddler to debug the application :
As far as having all layers grouped in one MXD, I try to separate out layers into mapservices with only a couple of layers. Then use the Layer Theme tool in Manager to group them. Having a large number of grouped layers in ArcGIS Server will slow things down. http://resources.arcgis.com/content/enterprisegis/10.0/services_performance

Thanks for your input Dan; I've followed through with downloading Fiddler and have invoked a number of HTTP sessions by launching my viewer URL. Very insiteful and line by line, thanks for getting me on this, a very valuable 'eye-opening' tool for sure, especially given the various complexities of building web applications.
With direction from Lattitude, the trick was to put in the 'fully qualified domain name' in the Connection String field of the Map Service Edit part from the Map node in Site Configuration. An example would be: somehost.example.com
This did the trick and all is good now. Here is a helpful link on explaining 'fully qualified domain name:' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fully_qualified_domain_name
Thanks again! Haven't forgotten about the best practices you relayed as well! Can't thank you enough!!! you rock!
