Security: green, gray and red colors assigned to a particular role,
I couldn’t figure out the indication of the colors used in assigning permissions to a particular role. It might be easy to understand that green color means that particular item is permitted while red is not. But what the grey color indicates for?

Gray means that the element inherits the permissions from it's parent.

Thanks Nicholas,
Could you please elaborate a bit more by giving an example from the screenshot I posted in my previous post?

In the screenshot the layer Area_ABC_06 is configured to inherit the setting of it's parent, which in this case is the map service M7; M7 is set to Allow so Area_ABC_06 inherits the Allow permission. If M7 was changed to Deny then Area_ABC_06 would automatically inherit the Deny permission.
