Global Search bringing back world search results

HELP!!! Has anyone encountered this before?

Our Global search is bringing back results not in our searchable databases or fields. When I type in something in the search bar I get Global results. It pulls back results from all over the world...literally. We are developing some Cultural mapping applications and  I typed in "dance" in the search bar and got results listed from Poland and Indonesia (we are in Windsor, Ontario! :) ) We have very specific fields and data, so I know waht should be retruning with that kind of search.

I have noticed that this only occurs when I am using the application in Chrome, Firefox or IE 10 and up. If I use a browser in IE 9 or lower...this does not happen. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or how I can stop it?

  Hi Frank, Larisa:

  I hope you found your solution. If not, check to see that the citiation layer for third-party or Esri basemaps are not participating in identify and global search.

  I had this problem when we first launched. Jody has the correct answer, turn off global search for any ESRI basemap layers. Worked for me! Good luck!
