Edit table

Just starting with a new application, and we'd like to provide 'localised'  (species, among others) values to users based on login. 

In a management/office application, we'd like to allow admins to edit these standalone table values (ideally we'd like the table to be registered with the geodatabase to utilise archiving) either via workflow or the 'in-place' attribute editing available when editing feature layers.

We're currently editing tables via the sql "non-query" activities but ideally we'd like to use the existing UI and REST.

Is direct editing of standalone tables exposed in feature services supported? What's the reccomended approach?
