Portal for ArcGIS Server Extension Integration

Has there been any thought about extending the functionality of connecting to ArcGIS Online content to Portal for ArcGIS Server content.  Portal for ArcGIS is essentially a non-cloud based version of ArcGIS Online for Organization, or at least that is how I understand it.
