    >Or, where is this message written?

As the Workflow Designer Help says, it is written on to the Viewer logging (on the GVS, SHIFT-ESC-ESC) on the viewer.

HELP doc says ' Description:  Writes a message to the log of the client application.'.

    > Can I redirect this message to append to a *.txt file?

    I don't think so.

    Munwhan,

What does GVS mean? Nothing happens when I key in SHIFT-ESC-ESC while I'm in my viewer.

So you're saying that the external log activity writes an entry to the log files on my local pc? Is that what you mean when you say "client application"

    (1) GVS stands for 'Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight', which GVH is for Geocortex Viewer for HTML5

    (2) REfer section 19.1.4 'Send Log Files' on the  GVS Adminstirator and Developer Guide.pdf.

    (3) Shfit - Esc - Esc: on your viewer, Hold down the Shift key and press Esc twice to display a list of log entries.

    > So you're saying that the external log activity writes an entry to the log files on my local pc?

--- Yes. the External Log logs on the browser of the viewer which you can see by 'Shift -esc-esc' key combination on the viewer.

    >Is that what you mean when you say "client application"

-- it means 'GVS' (viewer where a user launches the viewer).

    Munwhan,

Nothing happens when I key in SHIFT - Esc - Esc while I'm in my viewer.

I did check my local log file directory, and no entries have been made for today's date.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\Default\REST Elements\REST\App_Data\Logs.... is where I checked.

    1. Have you read 'GVS Administration Guide' docuemtn I wrote?

HOLD DOWN SHIFT - ESC -ESC should open the following /customer/servlet/servlet.FileDownload?file=00P6000000elzPCEAY

where you can find whatever you used with 'External Log' activity.

2.C:\Program Files (x86)\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\Default\REST Elements\REST\App_Data\Logs where anything you used with 'Log' activity with the certain log level will be logged. However, you have to check the Log Level configuration on the Geocortex Essential Rest Manager - Application Setting - System Log Level

Shift-esc-esc doesn't work for me either, and fortunately I found out that

    Ctrl-shift-z-z does what shift-esc-esc should!

    Give that a try ;)

    Steph,

    nice tip!!

The Shift-esc-esc has never worked for me either, but just tried your approach and it worked.

    Stephanie,

Thank you so much for that tip. Maybe Latitude needs to update the Silverlight Admin. Guide and put in the proper keyin to view the log entries!

Now that many side issues have been discussed, my original posting was to use the "External Log" activity as a method to count the number of times

where a workflow is used in production.

If the External Log activity is not the appropriate activity, can someone please comment on which activity to use to create a  log file

that can constantly be written to everytime a workflow is run?

    Thx...Walter

    Hi Walter

Can I assume that you do not have Optimizer?

  • If I can suggest Walter, give a try to Optimizer, it does it all and more in a great way!
