Cascading ComboBox using DataItem Collection

Is it possible to get the cascading dropdown functionality when populating the comboboxes using DataItem collection instead of using query task?

-but was never answered directly.  The thread is very old (2011/2012)  so I am reposting.

I am building 2 dataItem collections in a previous task from a web-request activity so the data is NOT in arcgis server.  I would like to dynamically filter the second comboBox values based on a selection from the first using these dataItem collections – not a query task .

  For anyone interested...

  I did get an email response:

  "This isn’t currently possible. The cascading logic is dependent on us performing an ArcGIS Server query. There isn’t any client side logic that can take the search term and apply a query/filter to the existing data item collection of the second input."
