Annotation Layer - maptip configuration

We are working with a large group layer that is made up of all annotation sub-layers.  It is working well, and performance is good.  However, it appears that some of the maptip configuration doesn't work.

We are trying to get a field, called 'URL', to display as a hyperlink in either the 'Feature Description' or 'Feature Label' section, and have it be labeled as 'drawing' (instead of displaying the full, ugly URL).  Nothing I configure in this section seems to make it to the maptip.  I have changed the 'display' field in ArcMap to be the url field, and that works a little bit - it shows up in both the label and body of the maptip, but I cannot do any configuration of this in Essentials Manager.  Basically it seems like you aren't able to configure maptips for annotation layers.

Has anyone encountered this issue, or found a work-around?
