Security for Data Connections
In order to gain access to our parcel fabric, staff need to have security clearance to view parcel related attributes. But with the ease of creating data connections to other systems, we now have established a data connection to a building permitting system which is related to the parcel map service.
This methodology exposes departmental data to staff who really should not be viewing building permit activity, but still need access to the parcel fabric.
My question is: Can security be applied to the data connection to only allow staff from the Building Services department access to this data connection?

Hi Walter,
DataConnections are not securable, but DataLinks are. A DataConnection just tells Essentials how to connect to a particular database. A DataLink specifies what data to query from a particular DataConnection and it exposes the data to the viewer.
If you expand your parcel fabric layer on the Permissions page of Manager you will see that you can assign different permissions on the DataLinks. This allows you to configure a public layer with restricted access to its DataLinks.

Ryan,
Thanks for your response. That's perfect... I will investigate on Monday and see if we can secure these new data links.
