Errors with Identity Server using Active Directory

    Hi Jason,

That particular error will appear if the Role Provider is unable to query Active Directory. This could be a configuration problem. This can also happen if the Identity Server application pool user does not have permission to connect to Active Directory. It should be able to do this by default, but it will fail if your machine is not a member of the domain.

In Essentials 4.3 it will be possible to configure explicit credentials for the ActiveDirectoryRoleProvider (the way you can with the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider). This is a couple months away.

The machine was not a member of the domain.

Adding the machine to the domain resolved the issue.

    Hi -

I'm hopping on this thread as it's somewhat related to an issue we're having.  Not able to see the correct domain user accounts when trying to configure windows integrated sign-on.  Related to this thread, I'm curious how you can tell if a machine is part of a domain, and where you can configure that.

    Thanks -

    Allen
