HTML5 Force ResultsList to use "description" vs "longDescription"
I've created a HTML5 viewer to work on a tablet (surface 2), when I use the Identify tool the results are populated in the results list but the content used is the Long Feature Description ("longDescription"). I'd like to force it to use the Feature Description (short) instead.
Here's my setup and thought process;
Feature Description (short) "description" = work order number.
Feature Long Description (long) "longDescription" = work order number and about 8 fields of data.
Because of limited space I want to list just the work order numbers after the identify, then have the user select the WO they want for more details. Note: MapTips uses the long description as desired.
If the Feature Long Description is blank, the identify will use the "Feature Description" (a.k.a. short) but if I populate the feature long description with any text, then the identify tool uses the "long" description instead. So it's evident that the result list can use the short description. I would like to force the Identify tool to always use the short description.
I've been poking around in the Tabet.json.js file but nothing seems to work. I suspect there is more going on that I am not aware of.
Note: I did watch a video posted 3 years ago on how to work with the long and short descriptions and in the video it appears to work they way I intend it to. But in actual practice something is different.
Any guidence is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom,
In the HTML5 viewer management pack there should be a "Look and Feel" section. Within this section there is a heading for Results List which contains a drop-down that allows you to select between using the Feature Description and the Feature Long Description. By default this is set to the Feature Long Description, I believe that setting it to Feature Description can solve your problem.
Hopefully this works for you, if not please let me know and we can work together to find a better solution.Cory Purnell

Hi Cory -
Thanks for the response.
I’m not sure I follow, here are the steps that I took to try to implement your suggestion.
Using Geocortex Essential Manager
1. Select the site.
2. Click on Viewer
3. Click on the Edit icon for my HTML 5 viewer
4. Click ‘Look and Feel’
5. I see groupings for the following topics
a. Browser
b. Banner
c. Bookmarks
d. Data Frame
I don’t see an entry for ‘’Results List” or any dropdown associated with it.
I’m using Geocortex Essential Manager version 4.1.0
ThanksTom

Sorry Tom,
I did some looking around and found that this configuration wasn't added until verson 2.2.1 of the Geocortex HTML5 viewer, so if you are using an older version this won't be available.0 -
Hi Cory -
You are correct that feature is present in the latest version of Essentials and once we implemented it, it worked as needed.
The problem we experienced was a very painful software upgrade process. The upgrade stopped our web server because we had two version of .Net installed on our server. It cause some panic on our end but we were able to figure it out.
Our host site names http:// and https:// got reordered (?) preventing Manager from opening on client machines. This was resolved thanks to a support call to Latitude. However, we are still seeing some anomalies between Chrome and IE 11. It appears that there are some issues with host/path redirects.
I don’t have the obstacles we experienced fully documented but I would be happy to do so, to help improve the installation process. Thanks again for your help.
All the best

Hello Tom,
Any information that you can provide would be great. The redirect issues that you mentioned in your last comment, is this from Manager or the viewers? I assume to resolve the initial issues with Manager sign-in you were looking into the ordering of host names in the Hosts... dialog in the Post Installer?
Thanks, Stefan
