Showing related data in feature description?

I have a map service with polygons, these have a one to many relationship with a document table (with a relationship in the database). The document table contains hyperlinks to files on a disk.

I'd like to display the hyperlinks from the document table in the Feature description from the polygons. Is this possible out of the box?

I haven't used Data connections at all before, is this something that could be solved using a Data connection, perhaps?

  There is no way to do a one to many hyperlink in feature description.  If you do a data connection, then they become available in a 3rd tab in the Additional Details diolog that comes up when you click on the 1st line of the result.  It also works if you do a relate in the MXD, but you have less control over field order and alias.
