Applying password protection to the Geocortex App Installer

I'm trying to add a password to the Geocortex App installer.  Unfortunately, applying password protection to the Geocortex App installer by enabling Authentication in IIS Manager breaks the install process.  That is, after entering valid credentials the install process begins, but never finishes.  Sometimes, but not every time, there is an error message that says: 

    Unable to Download App

    "<App name>" could not be downloaded at this time

How does Latitude suggest putting password protection on the installer?

  Hi Steven,

  Unfortunately iOS doesn't give very good feedback in these situations.  Here are a few things to try:

  • Always access the OTA deployment site through HTTPS.  If the certificate is self-signed then the certificate authority must be added to iOS's certificate store.  If you visit the webpage and there's a warning about the certificate then the application won't install.
  • Safari is known to have Windows Authentication issues.  Try disabling Kerberos and using NTLM instead.  It's an older and simplier (and honestly a little less secure) protocol.
  • If you can distribute over VPN instead that will likely be easier.
