Alter Home Panel information at runtime

Our current viewer has a home panel with some nicely generic info in it.

 

Seems a bit underutilized.  We'd like it to fill with some text of our choosing when, say, an event fires or a workflow is run or something.  LIke, for exampl, if someone clicks our "add feature" button it'd be nice if we could replace the "welcome to our app" message with some more detailed instructions and so forth.

I find commands of course for "ShowHomePanel" and "ActivateHomePanel" but is there one to programatically edit the contents of the home panel?  Or is this something I'd have to write as a custom view?

  Is there a reason you want to use the home panel instead of just using a Display Form in your workflow to present the information?

  Well, there were a few reasons, not the least of which being "because my boss said so" but I did figure it out using a little dojo.query.
