Host list shared between two instances running on one machine?

Does anyone have two instances of Geocortex running on one machine? We have this setup for security reason so that the Gocortex insstance for external users are completely separated from the one for our internal staff. As a result of this, each Geocortex instance needs different host list, i.e, the hosts for external users shoud be something like (http://www.yourcompany.com) www.yourcompany.com , and the internal instance host is the fully qualified server name like:<server name>.<your domain>.local.

So you may think naturally that the host list should be separated among the two instances, right? However, the fact is, based on my testing or at least in my environment, they are shared. As a result of this, each time I changed the host list through the Post Installation under one instance, the list in another Geocortex instance get changed as well. Is this right? a bug or a designed behave?

Hello Peng,

Thanks for posting this question. The short answer is that this is by design. Essentials points all the entries in the host list to the configured website in IIS (Most likely Default Web Site). If you wanted a different set of hosts to appear in the list, you will need to configure your second instance of Essentials to run on a different web site in IIS. From there you'll need to set your bindings so that the names you have configured for your internal instances go to the internal site, and the names for the external instances go to the external site. It would also be a good idea to create new applicaion pools for your second instance, just to keep everything completly isolated. All these settings will need to be carefully set in the post installer as well.
