Can you set HTML5 viewer to turn on all child layers when group layer is checked?

In another thread I got good information about the opposite - check the 'lowest' level child layer and the necessary parent layers are checked. 

 

Really would like to do it the other way around - turn on all the child layers simply by checking the group layer on.

  Is there a reason you can't just have all of the child layers checked by default and have the parent layer unchecked? That way when you check the parent layer you're making all the child layers visible. Otherwise, if for some reason you don't always want to do that, you could set up layer themes to turn different groups of layers on.
