Will it hurt an existing site if I now go in and check "Allow assignment of unique numeric IDs for map service publishing.."?

I have a site with multiple map services, and now ESRI allows services to maintain layer IDs, even when new layers are added.  Will this work with an existing site where I have already configured the service?

  It has worked for us! This was a long awaited feature enhancement for ArcGIS Server.

  Hi Mike -

   

  We have noticed some inconsistent behavior with this functionality.  Occasionally, with a service already published from an mxd without the box checked, when you check that box, it creates totally different layer ids in you mxd.  Haven't been able to figure what prompts this (anecdotally it seems less than half of the time). 

   

  So before republishing after checking the box, I always take a screen shot of the rest service with layer ids, so if we need to reset them in the mxd we can.
