Base Map Groups
Hi All

I have created a series of Base Map groups for a viewer. However when the viewer initially loads basemap picker show a generic icon and name, rather than the first base map in the list.

These groups have been created so that a second base map draws after the scale of the "primary" basemap has been reached. For example the topographic basemap has only been cached to level 19. I have set some scales in the display settings so that when a user zooms beyond that level the topographic basemap turns off and a basic dynamic service (added as a base map) turns on. This eliminates "The White Screen of Nothingness". I have done the same thing for the Imagery and Street Map base maps
The problem is that if the user zooms without selecting a basemap ie Topo, basemaps from the other groups flash on as well. If a base map is selected however the drawing of the lower base maps doesn't occur.
Just wondering if there is something I am missing to ensure that the Topo base map is active.

Hi Chris,
The selection in the base map picker is based on the visibility settings for your base map services. From what you are describing, it sounds like you might have all of the base map services configured to be initially visible. Since this configuration corresponds to multiple base maps being selected, the picker just shows a generic icon. This would also explain why you are seeing the other services briefly when you zoom the map. If you configure your site such that all and only the map services that belong to "Topo" are visible, then it should show as the initial selection when the viewer loads.0
