Print map--How to keep the map printed out in a correct orientation?

I am having problem to print the map in a correct orientation. The map is always printed in a orientation define by previous printing job.  It seems there is no place i can set the orientation the way i want and get the print out the way i want.  I set the map in report designer as portrait but the printer seems not taking this property.  I had to set it in printer property window to get the correct orientation.
