You can put services/features in the layer list but not have them visible to the end user.  So you can create a folder, add your features, then make the boundaries feature not visible in the layer list.

Dan thanks for the reply. So, you are suggesting that I set it up like this:

    _img_ alt="User-added image" src="https://latitudegeo--c.na53.content.force.com/servlet/rtaImage?eid=90760000000XcbR&feoid=Body&refid=0EM60000000Xw5j"_/_img_

The problem with this is that the user can open the seismic survey folder and turn off the seismic survey area and the outlines remain visible. If the user turns it off at the folder level everything is fine, but there is no guarantee that the user will do this....

You can hide both and rename the folder.

If I hide both then the folder is not poputlated in the layer list with in the viewer.

It works fine in my test viewer.  Both with a new folder and hidden contents and also when only the service level is visible and all the underlying features are hidden.

I see. What version of geocortex are you using and what viewer? HTML5 or silverlight?

Well that could explaine the the different behavior as I am on 4.2.1 and silverlight 2.4. I think I will just make service with "hollow" polygons as a compromise. Thanks for the input Dan!
