Layers excluded from layer list appear in layer list when saved project is opened
I'm using GE 4.5.1 and GVH 2.6.1. I noticed this morning that there are several layers that are excluded from the layer list in the site yet they show up in the layer list when a saved project is opened. Is this a bug?

Hi Rebecca,
I just tried to replicate this, but got different results. In my case, the layer showed up in the map frame when loading the saved project, but not in the layer list.
Can you please tell me, are you using layer themes in this case?
Do you see the layer in the map frame as well as the layer list?
What happens when you toggle the layer on and off after loading the saved project?
Thanks!

One more question, what browser are you using? I got the same results I mentioned above in both Chrome and IE.
Thanks!

I'm not using layer themes. I opened a new session, uploaded a kml file using the out of the box Upload Data tool and saved a project. The layers are showing in the layer list and map window and can be turned off and on as usual via the layer list checkboxes. 0 -
Same result in Chrome and IE 11. 0 -
Thanks Rebecca. Are the layers that are showing up contained in the kml file? If so, I think that would be the expected behaviour (Since you are saving you sites state as a project, including any user added layers that are coming from a file). 0 -
No. The layers are part of the site and have been set to not show in the layer list. I'm not sure how adding a kml would change that setting for other layers already in the site. 0 -
As per an earlier post ... I am experiencing the same problems. Even when a user saves a "default" view, that is there is no added data, layers that have been hidden from the layer list are displayed in the opened project.
I havent been able to work our why?0 -
Hi Rebecca and Chris,
I apologize, but I am still not able to reproduce this as you are describing. I would suggest opening a support case, so that we can do a screen share and try to confirm whether this is a bug or not.
Thanks,

I figured this out. If the layers are excluded from the layer list (by unchecking include in layer list) but still show in italicized, greyed out text on the layer list tab in Manager this behavior occurs. If the italicized, greyed out layer names are removed from the layer list, the layer list appears as expected after loading a project. It would be good if the 'do not show in layer list' setting was honoured either way but at least this works for now. 0 -
Unfortunately this doesnt help in our situation. The layers need to be in the layer list, although hidden, for certain functionality to work. I have enable our internal site to zoom in beyond the last cache level of the basemaps, when zoomed in beyond this level the base map turns off and a dynamic service takes over. In order to get this to work properly I have to create a folder in the layer list that includes both the base map and the dynamic layers.
If I remove the hidden folder from the layer list then the functionality I described will not work.
Danny - Just a note, that although they are hidden, they parent folder is checked on (also a requirement) if that makes a difference to your testing
It's unfortunate that when a user opens a saved project they now see these hidden folders.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I've verified that this is a bug. It's been filed as GVH-11980, and we will be looking into it. Thanks to everyone for reporting it, I've added you all as stakeholders on this issue.
Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I'm not able to replicate this in 2.7. Another customer that opened a case about this also upgraded to 2.7 and reported this fixed. I would suggest upgrading to resolve this issue. If that doesn't help, please reply to this post, or open a support case, and refrence the Bug ID GVH-11980.
Thanks!

Thanks for looking into it Danny. 0 -
We are having a similar issue, but on 2.6. We have not yet upgraded to 2.7.
We are experiencing issues with uploaded spreadsheets from ArcGIS Online persisting in projects where they are removed, then the project is then saved. If the user re-opens the newly saved project with the removed spreadsheets, the new project will incorrectly include those spreadsheets in the newly saved project. It seems like the save project task is not capturing the fact that those particular layers had been removed from the project.
Is this a similar situation and if so, has it been addressed?0 -
Hi Erik,
I don't think this is related to the original issue in this thread, but it's still odd behaviour! I would suggest opening a support case so we can work with you to collect more details about this, and get it filed in our bug tracker.
Thanks,
Danny0
