instant search not scanning

I thought I would look again at Instant Search to see if the bugs were resolved.  When I clicked on the arrow to start scanning a service, the cursor started to spin for awhile, and then just stopped.  Status remains Idle.  No errors, but no sign that it is doing anything either.  Any ideas?

  Well, I tried with Chrome on a different site with the same service, and now it appears to be scanning...go figure.

  And now, I have a different service that when I went to the Instant Search tab, it says that the current status is Indexing, but that it is at 0%.  I hit pause, and after thinking for a minute or two, it just comes back with the same...
