401 unauthorized error when setting geometry service
Hello, we have Geocortex 4.6.3 and recently after we re-run the post installation we got 401 unauthorized error when setting geometry service with our own geometry service.
- geocortex on server A, web adaptor on server A, ArcGIS Server on Server B, both within the same network
- server A have a public domain
- Windows Integrated used for Identity server, Windows Impersonation is off
- in IIS the ArcGIS directory has Anonymous Access is enabled, and Windows Authentication enabled (I disabled it to see if that would fix anythign but no luck, do i need restart IIS?)
- geometry service is not secured. I could access the REST end of the geometry service without log on
- I could add map services from the same ArcGIS server without any issue

Hi,
Can you connect to the Geometry Service through a web browser on the server itself? The Essentials Manager w3wp process will attempt to make a number of connections to ensure the Geometry Service works, if these fail then you'll recieve the error. It looks like either IIS or ArcGIS Server is preventing Manager from connecting due to being unauthorized (401).
Do you have any permissions configured for the Geometry Service or the Utilities folder in ArcGIS Server Manager?
Thanks,

hi Mike,
I can connect to the geometry service via a web browser without need to log on as the geometry service and the Utilities folder are not secured. It's more like the IIS stoped the connection from Geocortex manager. However, as I mentioned we have enabled anonymous access and Windows Authentication enabled in IIS on ArcGIS directory. I could add map services from the same ArcGIS server to Geocortex without any issue. but not the Geometry service.0 -
Did this issue ever get resolved? We are also dealing with authentication from a geocortex workflow to a SAP web service. 0 -
Mariette, unfortantely this probelm has not yet be sovled. I was waiting get chance to upgrade GE to the latest version to see if that gets fixed. 0 -
Hey Guys,
For issues like this, we recommend opening a support case so we can help you directly. Authentication errors can be hard to troubleshoot over the phone.
That being said, you might have some luck getting a fiddler capture from Essentials to the service, per the following KBA. It should be able to tell you where the 401 is coming from.

I hope that helps!
Thanks,
