Guest Identity Unauthorized Error
Good Morning,
Our enterprise has recently transitioned from Novell to Microsoft, and subsequently there have been some authentication changes for internet access.
Since the windows security update yesterday, we are unable to consume the ArcGIS Online basemap services through Essentials Manager. Within the 'Service Connections' tab in Essentials manager, ArcGIS Online basemaps services have been added:(https://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services)
We receive an 'Operation Failed' error message, along with 'No results found'. Interestingly, it appears that every 15 minutes the service works without any problems (all arcgis online services appear without the operation failed error message). But, the services will only work for about 2 minutes.
Essentials system log files are showing the following error:
Level="ERROR" Identity="Guest"><Message>The proxy handler failed to process the current request. The following error occurred: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
FYI - Anonymous Authentication is enabled in IIS Manger on our web server, and Anonymous Access is checked within the Security and Data tab in Essentials Manager.
When users try to access our interactive mapping applications, a message will appear noting 'Error Loading Map Services'.
Thanks!
Jason Danielson

Hi,
The server your Essentials instance is installed on, does it connect to the internet via a proxy server? There shouldn't be any authentication required when consuming sample services from arcgisonline.com.
I'd recommend opening a support ticket for this issue.
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick response. Apparently it was an authentication issue between our web server and Esri's ArcGIS Online web services site. Our internet filtering software required authentication, and the services site had to be added to a whitelist. Our interactive mapping applications are working well.
Thanks again for the comment Mike - we really appreciate it!Jason
