We have expedited a maintenance release of Geocortex Essentials to address a dependency on Bing Maps SOAP Web Services. This dependency affects all previous versions of Essentials and will prevent Essentials sites with Bing Maps services from loading when the services are taken down after July 31st. If you are not using Bing Maps services in your Essentials sites, you do not need to install this new version. This maintenance release does not impact our commitment to deliver another maintenance release next month.

 

Geocortex Essentials 4.8.1 is now available on the (https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCDownloads?productTitle=Essentials&sub-nav=downloads&main-nav=essentials) Downloads page.   Yes, all previous versions of Geocortex Essentials will be affected for sites using Bing Maps.

  Now that these services have been taken down, here's what you'll see when loading a site with Bing Maps with Essentials 4.8.0 and earlier:

   

  In the viewer, you'll see a 500 error:

  An error occurred. ConfigurationLoadFailed/RequestError: Unable to load /Geocortex/Essentials/REST/viewers/../sites/Bing/viewers/BingMaps/virtualdirectory/Resources/Config/Default/Desktop.json.js status: 500

   

  In Manager, when editing an existing site with a Bing Maps service, you'll see this error:

  Authorization failed for map service "Aerial with Labels" (ID: 0). : Map service "0" was unable to initialize. Ensure that the key is correctly configured, and represents a valid Bing Maps key. Underlying error: The service mehod is not found.

   

  If you're attempting to add a Bing Maps service to a site in Manager, you'll see this error:

  In the Silverlight viewer, you'll see a critical viewer error:

  The log view will provide additional details:

  Cannot open configuration file ('http://my.server.com/Geocortex/Essentials/REST/sites/BingSite/viewers/BingGVS/virtualdirectory/Config/Viewer.xml'). ---> System.Net.WebException: [HttpWebRequest_WebException_RemoteServer]

   

  Unfortunately, this is an issue with Esri's Silverlight API, which has been retired and will not be updated to address this or other issues.
